Lights of hope

With the cheer, the glittering lights, the soft snow on the ground, early darkness and the hustle and bustle for the run-up to Christmas and New year, one can not help but be a part of the merriment. Unlike last year, many families around the globe got a chance to celebrate their respective festivals this year, bringing a little joy and cheer to the otherwise dull year.

We managed to sail through the tide as the pandemic continues to ripple across the world. Amongst all the insanity, the festivities light the hearts giving positivity and hope to look forward to a bright future. I love to see the smiling faces of the kids and their excitement to celebrate festivals in any which way possible. The other day I saw a few kids giggling and happy to see the Christmas tree and the empty gift boxes beneath it. It was sort of symbolic for us adults around. But for the kids, it was pure joy. I realized how easily we forget to appreciate and live in the moment.

Celebrations of any scale bring joy and love in the simplest of terms. The whole purpose of festivals was to bring families and communities together to share food, laughter and warmth. The pandemic has already taught their importance a hard way. Although we have to admit that social media and marketing are killing the fun at times, making it toxic and competing.

These gatherings and celebrations bring in a fair share of stress to many at times. Families have to plan and think economically, practically on the scale of celebrations without it being a burden. Between the food, gifts, decorations and new clothes, there are emotions to be managed to avoid a run-down. Majority of the time, females of the household face enormous pressure to ensure the celebrations are up to the mark and everyone is happy. No one likes to keep a bad memory of fallout or resentment from the past when families come together. We all try our best to behave and draw the line to ensure the festive spirits are high. But it takes collective efforts and positivity from each member.

I now appreciate the growing popular culture of going on trips or walks outdoor this not only helps to ease the pressure but allows bonding well. When you are in the out, the entire atmosphere rubs on you and makes the mood light. I understand it is not feasible for all, but it's something to learn and think about. After all, we all gather to have a good time, lift our moods and give a sense of security around us. Bidding the year gone by with loved ones around is icing on the cake for many.

I love the anticipation of the new year when the resolutions are made and the confidence to achieve them is high. It is also the time of the year when we express our gratitude and humbleness for the opportunities, lessons learned and success we got in the passing year. That brings me to the end of the blog for this year. Never in my wildest dream or any new year resolution had I thought that I would write a blog on my thoughts and experiences, publish it on my website and you would take time to read it. I still find it hard to believe. You have my deepest gratitude and respect. You have helped me realize that things are possible. All we have to do is make a start.

I will always cherish the encouragement and support you gave me to continue to grow, learn and experience new things and pen them here for you. The curious person in me will do my best to bring more such experiences and lessons for you in the coming year.

Thank you. Happy New Year!
